Hot Damn, Do I Love Lo-Fi

So I've decided that lo-fi/garage/psychedelic/noise rock has surpassed Classic rock as my favorite genre. Don't get me wrong, I still have love for my regulars (Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Doors, etc), but lets face it, they're all dead and nothing much else could really come out of the genre. I'd have to say that the catalyst for this switch has to be DMBQ, the psychedelic noise rock band reigning from Japan. Anyone that draws inspiration from the classic rock staples while exploring their own original modern flair is good in my book. Therefore, I decided to create a playlist of some of my current distortion-infused favs. I apologize for the lack of actual music; that playlist program is slow as hell and its database doesn't even include the Hives (which, by the way, you'll have to excuse me for their biased presence; the Hives are among my favorite bands of all time) Also, this way I'll be able to include my own musings next to the track for your consideration/entertainment. Shoot me an email and I'd be happy to send some tracks your way.

1. The Hives - Well Well Well (Barely Legal) Short but sweet intro.

2. Naast
- Mauvais Garcon (Antichambre) Wickedly cool French band.

3. The White Stripes
- Bone Broke (Icky Thump) - Gotta give love to the new album.

4. Eagles of Death Metal
- Speaking in Tongues (Peace Love Death Metal)

5. The Beatles
- Sour Milk Sea (Kinfauns White Album Demos) - extremely rare track recorded while the fab four were in India. Next time I meet Boots Electric from Eagles of Death Metal you better believe I'm gonna suggest this as a cover.

6.Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
- Took Out a Loan - (Baby 81) - Not a huge fan of this album but this track is pretty solid.

7.DMBQ
- Mirror Baby (Essential Sounds from the Far East) - Oh god yes.

8.The Hives
- See Through Head (Tyrannosaurus Hives)

9. The Kills
- The Good Ones (No Wow) Guess I needed some female presence in here...

10. Tapes n' Tapes
- Just Drums (The Loon) Another great track out of 2006

11.Eagles of Death Metal
- Flames Go Higher (Peace Love Death Metal)

12. Autolux
- Blanket (Future Perfect) Probably the indie-est track on here...cool live, but I have a story about them, inquire within...

13.The Hives
- Abra Cadaver (Tyrannosaurus Hives) Could also have been the intro, but I decided to go with something more distorted.

14.Beck
- Novacaine (Odelay) Rappiest lo-fi I know of.

15.The White Stripes
- Ball and Biscuit (Elephant) - Among my top 10 favorite songs of all time

16.The Black Keys
- Thickfreakness (Thickfreakness) Blues-based garage...sounds kinda like prison music only more optimistic.

17.Eagles of Death Metal
- Poor Doggie (Death by Sexy) - "Maybe if you're real good ill give you tasty treats, show me desperation, there's other dogs to feed" Now if that ain't sexy I don't know what is.

18. The Hives
- What's that Spell...Go to Hell! (Barely Legal)

19. Phantom Planet
- Badd Business (Phantom Planet) Apox on the OC theme song, these guys know how to rock!

20.Louis XIV
- Pledge of Allegience (The Best Little Secrets are Kept) "Little Stacy Q, when she doesn't have a thing to do, she comes to my house but lets keep that between me and you..." More sexy-rock.

21.The Hives
- See Through Head (Tyrannosaurus Hives) So good.

22.The Ponys
- The Only One (Laced With Romance) I don't know if these guys exist anymore, but this album was great.

23. The Rakes
- Strasbourg (Capture/Release) Some good ol' brits doing what they do best.

24. The Warlocks
- Hurrican Heart Attack (Phoenix Album) Another psychedelic band out of LA. Saw 'em at the Echo in Silverlake, and they kicked.

25.The Hives
- Closed for the Season (Barely Legal) Hell, I'd close a jazz concert with this song.
